How to Install SSD Drive??
#1
I bought the ACEPC about 2 weeks ago and had no problems setting it up. It is operating great from the beginning.

One BIG problem. I purchased a Samsung 860 EVO drive (500GB), installed it by plugging it into the female receptacle (in the bottom compartment w/o opening the interior wiring/hardware of the AK1).

BUT, the system shows no evidence of the SSD's existence. And even after reading many posts and threads and watching every YouTube video I could find, I am stumped on how to set up this new Drive. Am I missing something?

Can somebody give me a straight-forward approach to my problem?
  • Do I need to format the drive?
  • I imagine so, but how do I find a drive that doesn/t show up in my index of Mem devices?
  • I assume others are having similar problems, but I can't follow the most relevant answers because the Prt sc pictures are completely out of focus.
  • Sure would appreciate any suggestions in response. I need to download some programs & need additional SPACE! Smile
Thanks much, Gary- gmorse44

Thx, Gjs999.

New drive does not show in Disk Manager...only Original Volume E with partitions= Partition 0- 29.11 GB and Partition 1- 7.48 GB

If I could find & format the new SSD drive, could I go ahead and use it?

The big question- How do I get it to register in Disk Manager?

It should be picked up automatically in win10 , you could try two things , one reseat the drive itself and two reseat the bottom of the ak1 holding the hdd . Its just two slide switches to remove.
If you have an external 2.5 usb case to insert the drive then see if win10 picks it up , if so the the problem lies with the ak1 expansion unit - hope this helps

Thanks.

I reseated the Drive. I don't see any way to remove the compartment. I did slide the two switches to open the lower compartment before reseating the drive which went securely into the 2 multi-contact female slots.

Still no indication of a new Drive in File Explorer or Disk Management. Win 10 has very good info about (1) Initializing and (2) Partitioning. But nothing I can do when no Drive is visible in "Disk Management". The Samsung 860 SSD Drive is brand new and I believe not defective.

Thanks for your suggestions. If you have any others I am "all ears"!

Best, Gary

When I was configuring my AK1 at first I tried a Corsair 2.5" SSD in the expansion but it was not detected in any way. When it was connected through USB it was detected. I tried to format the drive externally but it didn't help on detection.

Then I tried a Sandisk SSD in the expansion bay and it worked  immediately.

It looks like AK1 has some compatibility issues with some drivers.

Thanks Qjs999,

I was encouraged by your report about the Sandisk SSD. So I went to my local Frys and exchanged the Samsung disk for a Sandisk.

Unfortunately, nothing changed. After installing the new Sandisk, I had the same problem...no evidence that it exists--anywhere.

Strangely, Memory manager explains in detail that you should click on the disk and initialize it. But nothing I do shows it is present!

I would sure like to know why your case was different--Voila, you changed brands and it was like magic.

If you have any other ideas, I am getting a little desperate Smile Would appreciate any other suggestions and where to contact help. I am surprised that apparently nobody else has had this problem!

Best, Gary

When you slid the two switches the bottom unit should just pull apart. You could have a bad unit or its not making a good connection . Your only other option is to buy a cheap external hdd case .

Good point. I didn't know the bottom came off. I will try this and report my discoveries.
