Windows 10 Anniversary Update- How to update your device to the Windows 10 Anniversary Update?

How to update your device to the Windows 10 Anniversary Update?

Q1. What is the Windows 10 Anniversary Update?
The Windows 10 Anniversary Update will modernize the PC and enables more natural interaction with your device. The update provides new capabilities that will help your device be more personal, productive and more secure.
The Anniversary Update to Windows 10 Home, Pro and Mobile is available for free to all existing Windows 10 customers.

Q2.How do customers update their Windows 10 computer to the Windows 10 Anniversary Update?
The Windows 10 Anniversary Update will be rolled out to Windows 10 customers over two months, starting with those we know will have the best experience (depends on the age of their PC and how it is used, and the free space on their hard disk). This means some Windows 10 Version 1511users will NOT see Windows 10 Version 1607 in Windows Update if they manually scan. However, they can also check the Windows 10 Download page and click Update Now to proceed the update.

To figure out why users can’t see the Windows 10 Anniversary Update in Windows update, follow the below process:
1. Check what has already been installed. The user might already have the update. Open Settings > System > About. You will see either Version 1607 for the Anniversary Update or Version 1511 for the November 2015 Update If there is NO version information, it means the customer is running the RTM version of Windows 10.
2. Check for updates with Windows Update. Open Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update > Check for Updates. Some users would see Version 1607 as an available update, it will then start to download and install.
3. If the customer still doesn’t see the update, we advise you to check the Windows 10 Download Page and click Update now at the top of the page, then you can download and launch the Update Assistant. Accept the EULA, and after a compatibility check, you will be allowed to upgrade to Windows 10 Version 1607.

Q3. Can customers upgrade from Windows 7/ 8.1 to Windows 10 Anniversary Update? How to do it?
After the free upgrade ends, customers need to purchase Windows 10 if they want to upgrade from Windows 7/Windows 8.1 to the Windows 10 Anniversary Update.
If you have valid Windows 10 product key, you can upgrade by using the Media Creation Tool on the Software Download site and it will be prompted for the product key.
If you have Windows 7/8/8.1 (Pro edition) and have a Windows 10 Home key, you can upgrade only would their data be migrated. However, apps would not be migrated so you would need to reinstall these apps after the upgrad.

Q4. What does Windows 10 Anniversary Update look like?
The Windows 10 Anniversary Update looks like any other update, and it can be manually or automatically installed through Windows Update or through the Windows 10 Software Download website. This update is an operating system replacement as well as a migration of apps, files and personal settings. The update will launch setup, which then runs in the background.

It is very similar to how Windows 10 November Update was installed, except that the setup screens have been changed to be more consistent with an update experience.

Q5. How do I know if I successfully have the Windows 10 Anniversary Update?

On a PC: You can review the version field via Settings >System >About or by clicking Start >type WinVer >Select WinVer, and review the Version field. The version number for Windows Anniversary Update is 1607.
